Dominic Kearney - A character too good to be real

The banshees of inisherin collin and barry keoghan

We all have that one person in our life whom we neglect unintentionally even though they are a diamond of a person. THAT.... is Dominic Kearney.

In the award-winning film, The Banshees Of Inisherin Barry Keoghan plays a simple man living on the same island as everyone but with the purest soul.

From the opening scene itself, we could see how naïve he really is and how bad he wanted Pádraic's friendship as he is alone and being abused by his own father. The worst part is the community of Inisherin seems to be okay with this. Being abused seemed like an everyday "thing" for Dominic and we can see that when he casually admits it to Pádraic and his sister while they're going to the church.
Speaking of the church, we also witness poor Dominic curses the god - Showing how hurt he really is. but he immediately returns to his normal self and even we (at least I) forgot that character's existence until he showed up again. I became the very citizen of Inisherin.

Heartbreaks Of Dominic

Dominic proceeds to live his life knowing he has one nice person and a friend in his life-Pádraic. Dominic Kearney finds out how horrible Pádraic can get when he sent Colm's friend off of the island by saying his father got into an accident with a bread van. Dominic believed Pádraic to be the nicest guy in the village but now he leaves Pádraic and his friendship behind, heartbroken.

The Last Hope

Barry keoghan

Dominic Kearney's interest in approaching women was shown throughout the film. It was painted like the very first love we had - Full of  Pureness, Innocence, insecurity, and Defensive. He expresses his love for Siobhan to her and he got rejected for obvious reasons we all know. The scene was crafted elegantly and realistic. The acting from Barry Keoghan peaks during this scene as his character got his heart and his last hope shattered into pieces. There goes his dream... This is also the last time we've seen Dominic as he walks alongside the lake.
