Oppenheimer - A Better Horror Than Conjuring
But I knew what was coming in the movie.
A slow-paced docudrama which I love so much. Safe to say I was prepared.
I can understand why people would hate this amazing work though. They could've expected something like Dunkirk which is precisely not this movie.
You can try all the fantasy shits and jump scares in horror films to make the audience feel frightened. But It's very hard to make your audience terrified of reality (which could happen any minute) with a 3-hour-long pure drama. And Christopher Nolan did the job like a knife cutting through the butter!
The movie jumps around the story from here and there which makes it easy for Nolan to lure us into the mind of Oppenheimer and the politics of America. You can feel his passion for physics and nuclear energy and his political stand. There's not a single moment which makes you divert from the mind of Oppenheimer.
You either think about him or the terrifying reality we live in, all 3 hours of the film.
I'm a great admirer of Nolan's past works. But I would always feel a bit distant (emotionally) from the characters in his movies. To make me indulge & feel for a character in a film, you'd need Martin Scorsese. He's the man for the job. At least, that's what I thought but Christopher Nolan proved me wrong with this amazing Drama which I could watch over and over again.
The scene where Oppie rushes to Einstein with a piece of paper makes you feel... Damn, how could a piece of paper poured with a bunch of calculations can define the history (and potentially the future) of our entire planet?
The visuals when Oppie explains the bomb could light up the atmosphere with that great music sends shivers up your spine. Felt it. The reality is THAT scary.
Oppenheimer is genuinely a horror movie. You will definitely leave the theatre terror-struck.
It's terrifying to know that a single push of a button is all you need to end the world.
