The Whale Asserts The Importance Of Communication

 We don't give credit to the significance of communication in our life. When the realization knocks at our door it would probably be too late. To me, at this point in my life, This film depicts exactly that.

They still care

As the film goes on, we get to see the root cause of all the problems that happened in their life - Communication. The scene where Mary (Wife of charlie) says "we played our part" denotes the fact that, without communication, we are just mere puppets in our life.

They do care about each other and their daughter but they simply stopped loving each other.

That is no reason to stop caring for the other person or to entirely stop communication but we have seen why it happened pretty clearly and it is fair. You cannot blame charlie for falling in love (In a way) or Mary for leaving him for the same. What you CAN blame for, is partly the situation and them for raising their daughter separately even though they care about her.

What if?

This is the question that popped into my head after I finished the movie. What if they somehow made it work? I blamed the situation and them earlier but what if they overcame all the obstacles and started raising their daughter like they should have. Funny thing about "What if" is, It could happen in a lot of ways. Well, I got two outcomes that seem interesting & funny.

1. After the "cool-off" period is over, they come to an understanding where both agree to give and care for their daughter as they like. Sounds like a fairytale or a feel-good movie.
2. A dark comedy about a family guy who identifies himself as gay and leaves the family. 

You gotta give me credit for the second possibility people, it would be hilarious. Just admit it.
